Introduction and Policy

For eighty years maps bearing the Fuller name have been produced in Adelaide. Started by Mr. W.G. Fuller who came to South Australia in the early 1920s; the first Adelaide Street Directory was released in 1927. The full colour 2008 Adelaide and South Australian Country Towns Street Directory is the current product.

All cartographic work and printing is undertaken within South Australia. The compilation, revision and drafting is by Carto Tech Services Pty Ltd based in the heart of the City of Adelaide whilst the printing is done by Gillingham Printers Pty Ltd at Underdale; an Adelaide suburb. This is the only Adelaide street directory totally produced in the State - a deliberate policy to assist in some small way to keep South Australians employed. An added advantage of this is that there is a close liaison with information providers.

Distribution of the map products is undertaken by The Map Shop.

2007 Adelaide and SA Country Street Directory

Each 20,000 scale map of the metropolitan area covers an area 3.5 kilometres by 5 kilometres. Maps are oriented almost to true north which is convenient for the mainly rectangular layout of Adelaide's street pattern. Maps are produced in full colour with a hierarchy of street grades to make transport through the country easier. The large format maps make the need to change pages less frequent and the spiral bound version ensures that the book stays open when required.

On-line Maps

Since July 99 an on line version of the Fullers Adelaide and South Australian Country Towns Street Directory has been available on a subscription basis. Due to the dynamic nature of any Australian city there are constant changes thus the need to publish new directories on an annual or biannual basis. The latest pages direct from the Drafting office are periodically made available for download assisting those people who need to know where the latest streets are, eg:the builder, plumber, etc. trying to erect new houses in new suburbs.

Production and Feedback

Digital mapping techniques are used in the continuous revision of the Adelaide metropolitan area. Data is digitised from aerial photographs or cadastral information provided by governmental and private sector sources. Regular field checks are undertaken to verify names, house numbers and principal features.

A continuous update of street listings is also undertaken. This database is available for incorporation into address checking programs and is used by various governmental and quasi governmental agencies.

The quality of the product is enhanced by customer feedback. Please advise of any improvements that can be made to increase the readability of the map products or of any changes, alterations or deletions that need to be made. If your advice is the first regarding the alteration you will receive a twenty five per cent reduction off the price of a copy of the next edition when it is released.
