Information about ordering a Custom Map
If you are thinking about ordering a custom map but are
not quite sure how to define what your requirements are,
then this page is designed to help you and to give you an
idea about some of the specific things we can do for you.
DEFINING YOUR MAP
You need to decide the area you want to cover, the size,
the details you require on the map and whether or not
specific information pertinent to your needs should be
included on the map. You then have to communicate that
information to us as clearly as possible. Here are some
things to consider when doing that.
(Click the thumbnail image and a larger
version will open in a new window.)
Use Roads and/or Intersections
A map area could be described either by naming
intersections or by naming the roads bounding the
area.
In this example the ringed intersections define
the north, south, east and west limits of the map.
The bounding roads could be described in this
way:
Pt Wakefield Rd to Salisbury Hy, Salisbury Hy to
Kings Rd, Kings Rd to Bridge Rd, Bridge Rd to
Montacute Rd, Montacute Rd to Pt Wakefield Rd.

List the Required Suburbs
The example on the right could be described by
naming just 3 suburbs
(Hallett Cove, Sheidow Park & Trott Park).
If you only need part of a group of suburbs then
use the intersections and roads method to let us
know where to cut them off.

All Available or Limited Details
Half this map uses all the available details
associated with this map database. The complete
road pattern with all roads named plus additional
details and information.
The right hand side map has limited details. It
uses the entire street pattern but suburb and main
road names are emphasized while side road names
and most additional details are turned off. It
also uses a different colour scheme and includes
an industrial areas layer.
You may need to use one or the other depending on
the scale of the map you require. The limited
details version can be useful for planning or
overview purposes.

Highlight a Specific Area
This example shows the Campbelltown local
government area. Map areas could be based on
individual or groups of suburbs, electoral
boundaries, LGAs or post codes.
Customers can also define an area that meets
their specific needs. Such areas should be
described by roads, intersections, existing
boundaries and other map features such as rivers.
A range circle could also be used to create an
area around a specified location.*

Extra Touches *
We can further customise your maps in a variety
of ways:
- highlight single
areas or multiple areas
- add range circles
from a specified point
- highlight
specified locations with a circle or symbol
- incorporate your
logo and details in the map presentation

THE COST OF CUSTOM MAPPING
Custom maps are more expensive than off the shelf
commercial maps. What you are paying for is not just the
printing cost but the time taken to create the map plus
access to the map databases that we use. These map
databases need ongoing development and updating in order
to be useful. The resources required to do that are part
of the custom map price.
Most custom map buyers want a map for their business'
wall. Our starting prices are based on the standard page
sizes of A2, A1 and A0. We can alter the size if necessary
- bigger or smaller. We will do A3 or A4 sizes but the
cost is not much less than A2 because of the time and
database access costs.
* Although we don't mind adding in range circles
or defining a highlighted boundary based on an existing
area (suburb, LGA etc) as a part of the standard price,
the more extra work we have to do to meet your
requirements the more likely it is that the custom map
will incur an additional cartographic fee.
If your custom map is required for publication or mass
distribution of some kind there will be additional
licensing costs or fees. Our custom maps are copyrighted
and not for distribution unless that has been negotiated
with us.
